Grove TITANIUM and Suspension bikes

Grove Titanium and suspension frames were based on the Assault and Aggressor. The Titanium was the Assault geometry, and a few Aggressor front triangles were designed for the AMP rear end. The Team bikes were usually one-off's with any variety of material or design prototypes.

This immaculate Grove Ti resides at Eddies Bikes in State College, PA.

This Grove Ti is set up as a SS and is NOT for sale by radstephan (at) hotmail (dot) com...His story follows:

Hello again Mike,
Thanks for posting my black ti Grove singlespeed. I just wanted to let you know that I couldn't sell it. I'm keeping her. I don't recall if I gave you the history of this rig but here goes. This Ti frame was originally painted silver and was purchased by my good friend Chuck Bednarcyzk. Chuck used to wrench at the Bicycle Shop and was also a National Team member and raced in Europe for Castorama. Chuck never bought the bike for himself but actually "gave" it to Kyle Dixon. Kyle had a stellar season on this bike and the following year turned pro for Jamis. The bike was then given to me and I rode several National Mountain Bike events on it including a top ten finish at the 1996 Collegiate National Championships which was won by Todd Wells. Dixon was 2nd or third and I was 6th.
I gave the bike back to Chuck a year later and he took it back to State College and had the head tube cut off and rewelded to accomodate suspension, so this frame is actually suspension ready. I'm pretty sure he actually had Bill do the work. Obviously the bike was repainted in black. The down tube stickers were never put on at Chuck's request. The frame then sat in Chucks garage for many years until I asked about it and he gave it to me! Needless to say, Chuck is awesome. Yet another reason why I can't and shouldn't sell this frame.

I love checking up on your site and seeing the new additions.

Take good care,
Stephan Kincaid

This former Grove Team bike belongs to Chad Rockey, who has more than a few Grove bikes:

I have this blue Team bike- Titus rear-end with Fox Vanilla. Built with Aero-Met alloy...? Ridden by a team member for one season. Don't know much about it other than that it is very light and very flexy.

This full suspension Aggressor belongs to master painter Tom Worrick. Photo was taken in the Grove shop in Centre Hall.

In the mid 90s some Aggressors and Titanium fronts were outfitted with AMP or Titus rear ends. This Ti was on ebay in 2004 (it sold for $547)

Text from the above Ti on ebay:

18" Mountain Bike Custom-built by Grove Innovations in State College, PA. Full Suspension Titanium Frame. Aluminum AMP B1 rear end. Manitou Ti Spring Bulge FS shock. Magura Race Lite Hydrolic Brakes, Grip Shift with XTR and LX 8-Speed components. Ringle Hubs. Club Roost Bars. Chris King sealed headset. Sun Rims. Ti seat post.

This bike was super trick and everything was top-of-the-line when the bike was new. It's not so new anymore but a lot of the components are still great and the bike is really light since there is so much TI on it. Some stuff has been replaced since the bike was first built up so the Grip shift and Manitou's and derailures are newer than 2000. It hasn't been ridden that much in the last 3 years and it is definently still in rideable condition. The bike was an awsome hand-me-down but it's really too big for me so if you are looking for a cheap way to get a dream bike this is probably it!

From Matt in North Carolina, who still rides his Groves on occasion (he also has an X) when he isn't jumping out of airplanes in a wingsuit:

I came across your website after Googling "Grove Innovations"... and saw you mentioned dropping you a line if I had any Grove info.... I bought a Grove full suspension (the interrupted seat tube model with the Titus rear end), a Mantiou EFC fork, Magura (the day glo yellow ones), Grip Shift X-Rays, Topline cranks, Ringle hubs, etc. when I graduated from Penn State in May '95 and loved it.

The flames are a nice touch!

These brand new Ti frames are for sale in Pietro Cycles in Germany. Pietro was the largest importer of Grove bikes in Europe and still has a few NOS Groves. An, apparently, some nice old-school Ibis and Mountain Goats.
