Grove Aggressor and Xtreme
Aggressor's and Xtreme's were introduced in the 1990s. The Aggressor is a stronger, stiffer frame with oversized cro-moly tubing to fill the void between the Assault and the HardCore. The Xtreme was a loose interpretation of the Aggressor and X, but unlike the original X, it has a more traditional front triangle. There a few Xtremes out there built in titanium as well, but most were steel. They all use track dropouts which make popular single speed conversions.
Grove Aggressor

These Aggressors (above and below) are in Germany, I found this image on the Euro site Internet Bike Community, which had a Grove thread in the archives, complete with links to this site - gotta love the net! The bike below is painted in Neon Solar System.

Keven Kinney sent me a picture of his frame (above) and built bike (below).

This Aggressor with a Hard Core fork showed up on ebay,
the custom paint job is wineberry-white-metallic blue.

From James Kelly, Blacksburg, Virginia: I bought my Aggressor stock from The Bike Shop in August of 1992. It's serial is 3-19-92: the original hotheads got bent in a car accident, the Grove fork had a steer tube that shattered in Rothrock, the matching bottle cages died, went through a set of hotrods, but the frame is still running. It's my favorite - man is it ever. I ride it several times a week on some rothrock-like trails.

I bought the frame in '95 from the Bicycle Shop. They had a few Grove frames left hanging in the rafters that were on sale. My friend James Kelly was quite pleased with his Aggressor, so I thought it was the thing to do. Glad to see he made your site. I think the original frame color was called "mint." I had John Upcraft strip it and paint it again, the current dark green color, before I cannibalized my Specialized Rockhopper to build it up. I still have the bike and ride it when I get the chance. I also still have the original fork and Hammerheads, painted in the matching green color, but I had to take them off when I switched to a threadless headset and put a shock on it.
Thanks for maintaining the site, Joe

Before and after - a repaint on a well used former Team bike. This is a unique frame, experimental in design with elements from the Assault, Aggressor and Extreme. Notice the vertical drop-outs.
