Rothrock Trail Map

$12.00

The famous Lizard map of the many trails in Rothrock State Forest between State College and Huntingdon, PA. Helping people explore Rothrock State Forest since 1997.  It's a big one - 36 x 24 inches, printed on waterproof plastic!

What could you do if you had a map like this? You could explore hundreds of miles of dirt roads and trails on public lands, for starters. That will take a while. One of the best off-road running races in the country is held here: the Tussey Mountainback 50 mile relay and ultramarathon covers a huge tract of land in Rothrock. In between adventures you can explore the many cool businesses who are located on the map. When you're hungry for food (or brain food in the form of used books and records) you can stop by the new and improved Webster's Cafe and Used Bookstore (opening in January 2012 on Beaver Avenue). For a serious dinner in the midst of historical Penn State memorabilia, stop by The Tavern on College Avenue. If you need a styling set of new wheels to get you there, check out Dix Honda for new and used cars. Then, you can head 15 miles northeast to Millheim, where the Elk Creek Cafe + Aleworks offer their own spectacular microbrews, locally sourced menu and live music. It really doesn't get any better than this.

If you're into mountain bikes, or any kind of bikes, State College has a few of the leading bike shops in the state, if not the country. Check out Eddies Bicycles, the Bicycle Shop and Freeze Thaw Cycles, all located in downtown State College. On the southern side of Rothrock you'll find Rothrock Outfitters in Huntingdon, PA. They all ride and can guide you to the trails that fit your riding tastes the best, although all the trails in Rothrock are pretty tasty. You can even have a custom, handbuilt bike built just for you by Hubcap Cycles. If you love riding, running or hiking the trails, please support NMBA, the Nittany Mountain Biking Association, who build and maintain the majority of local trails. They have a great website with message boards, trail work events, and current trail info. See Jane Ride can offer you local tours for women cyclists and a cool clothing line of women's apparel. Need to fly in and ship your bike here? Just call BikeFlights, they broker that service to get you the best rates.

A few miles south of town is the Shaver's Creek Environmental Center, where you will find a rescued raptor center, hands-on nature center, and a huge trail network around Lake Perez. To see a host of other local options, visit the Central Pennsylvania Convention & Visitors Bureau for more maps and guides to local resources. For the inside scoop on eateries, check out Going Local!, a guidebook to cool eateries in Central PA.

See? Rothrock is the epicenter of cycling in Central Pennsylvania. You may just want to give Tom Kali and Ellen Kline at ReMax Centre Realty a call to see about finding another house in the area. That way you can enjoy all the fun events and attractions at Tussey Mountain, like concerts, skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, go-carts and golfing. There is so much to do around State College you may never leave. But if you do, head south about 25 minutes to Boxer's Cafe in Huntingdon, for the best beer selection within spitting distance (well, almost) of Raystown Lake and the Allegrippis trails. The Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau can help you find about a million things to do there. One of my favorite places in Huntingdon is the Standing Stone Coffee Company, where you'll find great food, coffee and tea, free wifi and, if you're doing the living-out-of-my-car-roadtrip thing, a full service laundromat.

If you like this website and want one just like it, but without the cool maps, email West Arete Computing, who designed it for us. If you have a business and need branding and logo design, give Rowland Creative a call.

We believe the Lizard map may even change your life for the better. Follow the purple lines and who knows what wonder you will find? Amazing places, incredible views, all kinds of creatures and a few other happy people. Or, maybe you'll decide the woods are full of bugs and dirt and sharp pointy things and you prefer a soft couch and television wasteland. In which case you can hit the couch with full confidence that you tried the outdoor thing and it wasn't for you.

Health warning: continued use of these maps may result in an inability to stay indoors and a sudden criticism of traffic. Your skin may become covered with dust and dirt. Mild confusion will make it difficult to relate time and distance, which may alter your definition of weather. There is a potential for all of these side effects to occur simultaneously and without warning. That's why we are warning you now.
