Where it all began - this is the very special book that helped to inspire Purple Lizard Maps.
One evening Harold decides to go for a walk in the moonlight. Armed only with an oversize purple crayon, young Harold draws himself a landscape full of wonder and excitement.
Harold and his trusty crayon travel through woods and across seas and past dragons before returning to bed, safe and sound. Full of funny twists and surprises, this charming story shows just how far your imagination can take you.
Harold and the Purple Crayon was first published in 1955. Purple Lizard's founder, Michael Hermann, was born 9 years later and at some point this book entered his life and quite possibly was instrumental in guiding him to create Purple Lizard Maps 42 years later. When asked about the origin of the name Purple Lizard Michael often recalls the influence this book - especially the part where Harold wants to walk in the forest, so he takes his purple crayon and draws a forest. Michael wonders if his early love of drawing, being outside, the color purple, and his eventual career in mapmaking all root back to this beautiful story.
The well loved and dog-eared copy of Harold and Purple Crayon has stayed with Michael all these years and it is displayed on a shelf in the Purple Lizard offices today.
We wanted to share this special book with the Lizard Maps community. We offer the modern hardcover Library Edition. We hope this book inspires you as much as it does us. The perfect gift for future generations of artists, dreamers, and maybe a few mapmakers.

This is a darn substantial bag, built from burly 1000D Cordura with two comfy webbing handles which sling over a shoulder for long hauls. Large front pocket for quick access to keys or often used items... like your Lizard Maps!
Everybody has stuff... and this will carry a lot of stuff!
The Lizard Tote may be the last tote you ever need. It makes a great road trip bag, race kit bag, camping tote, around town bag, airport carry on bag, overnight bag or shopping bag. Basically, if you want to bring it with you, this bag will probably do the job.

A Lizard community favorite for fall and winter. Our fleece Lizard Hat has a embroidered Purple Lizard to help you make any spot a lizard spot! This super-soft, super warm hat is our favorite headgear when the temperatures start to fall and hunting season opens.
One size fits all although we think these run a bit large, so they may not work for kids.
This hat is not only warm, it's pretty darn helpful. I will help ensure that hunters see you when you're outside. On some public lands it is a requirement that everyone has to wear orange in hunting season (check the rules in your area). While this hat alone may not satisfy the minimum orange square inch requirement - it's a good start. These are really soft and warm, they are also a great choice to be more visible when walking or running on the road.
We also have knit beanies in more subtle colors.

Be safe and warm in the forest all year long with these sweet knit caps from Purple Lizard! These are also perfect one size fits most gifts for all the outdoor adventurers in your life.
A simple knit beanie in purple heather, maroon heather, bright blue, grey or black will keep your brain warm and toasty. These are 100% acrylic knit hats: we call them a beanie, if you're Canadian you can call them toques. Either way, they are soft and warm and cozy, almost like a cat - except it's pretty rare to find a cat that stays on your head while hiking.
Whatever colors you choose, your happy PA embroidered Lizard will appear on the hat and travel with you wherever you go. The stylish purple or maroon heather beanies are our faves. Who is this Heather you ask? Heather is a color, or a pattern, honestly we aren't sure - but the hats look pretty sweet.
We also have a Screaming Warning Orange Lizard Hat in super warm fleece to help ensure that hunters see you when you're outside. In some public lands, such as Pennsylvania State Game Lands, it is a posted rule that everyone has to wear orange in hunting season. Be aware that this hat alone may not satisfy the minimum orange square inch requirement - but it's a start. These are really soft and warm, they are also great to be more visible when walking or running on the road.
